I am a mother of three very active children, I work full time, have a house
full of animals, love to garden, and still try to find time for myself, yea
right! So if you are in similar circumstances, you can relate to this. I
am always looking for new herbs that I can grow myself, or have easy access
to. Some of the spells and rituals require what I would consider "hard to
find" herbs. So on this page, the herbs you will see, should be fairly easy
to locate, if you don't already have them.
I have included how to use these herbs in medicinal as well as magickal ways, and I do not distinguish between the two. To me they are one in the same.
Alfalfa: This is a commonly grown vegetable, and can also be easily found. Keep in a small container to use for protecting the home from poverty. Burning and scattering the ashes around the property also helps protect the home.
Aloe Vera: Growing this plant in your kitchen helps prevent accidents, and guards against evil. It is easily found and commonly used as an ointment on burns.
Anise: Mix with bay leaves, and add to a bath prior to ritual for a more thorough cleansing. Burn anise alone or with potpourri to ward off evil. Add to a sleeping pillow to rid yourself of nightmares.
Apple: There are many uses to the different parts of this tree. The fruit is commonly used to treat constipation, the pectin to lower cholesterol. Rub crushed leaves on a fresh would to help prevent infection. Use the blossoms in love and healing incenses. Use the wood to make wands to be used in ritual. Give as offering to the dead on Samhain, it is also a symbol of immortality.
Basil: By reducing stomach acid, this is used for stomach cramps, vomiting, fever, cold, flu, headache and menstrual pains. Rub a leaf on insect bites to draw out the poison, use the oil to treat acne. Add to bath water for purification. Also used for wealth and prosperity spells, and protects from evil and negativity
Bayberry: Use as a gargle for soar throat. Small doses help over all body systems. The oil of bayberry will bring prosperity and luck.
Blackberry: Syrup from the roots are used to treat diarrhea and upset stomachs, good for children. Make a tea from the leaves for diarrhea and sore throat. The leaves and berries are used in money spells.
Caraway: Add to cough remedies for use as expectorant. Aids in digestion, promotes menses, and increases mothers milk. Carry in amulet for protection. Promotes memory, and guards against theft.
Catnip: NOT just for cats. Particularly good for children with upset stomachs used in a very mild tea. Used for colds, flues, fevers, upset stomachs and insomnia. Use with rose petals in love sachets. And Of course, treat your cat! Aids in creating a psychic bond with your cat. Grown in the home attracts luck and good spirits
Cayenne: Add to liniments for muscle pains. Aids in stimulating the action of other herbs. Stops external and internal bleeding. Aids in depression (add to food you are preparing, if appropriate, and watch the moods of those around you improve). Scatter around the house to break bad spells, but be careful if you have animals or small children.
Cedar: Cedar chips used or burnt attracts money, and purification and healing. Symbol of power and longevity. Hung in the home will protect against lightning. Juniper can be used in it's place.
Chamomile: Make a tea from the flowers for nerves and menses cramps, also a good wash for sore eyes and open sores. Calms the body for inducing sleep. Use in charms for prosperity and to attract money. Burn as incense alone will induce sleep, with other herbs to produce a relaxed state. Add to a ritual bath to attract love. Sprinkle around property to remove curses and bad spells.
Cinnamon: Works as a stimulant to other herbs and the body by enabling them to work faster, add to other remedies for acute symptoms. Also effective as a blood purifier and infection prevention. Burned as an incense will promote high spirituality, should also be burned with other incenses used for healing. Use the oil for protection.
Clover: Can you guess?? Brings luck, prosperity, and health. A three leaf clover gives protection, worn over the right breast to bring success. Red clover acts as a sedative, used for coughs in children as it is mild to their systems. Helps to strengthen children with weak systems. Use for acne.
Cloves: Use the oil for toothaches. Promotes sweating with fevers. Save for relieving vomiting during pregnancy. Worn in an amulet will drive away negativity and stop gossip. Helps to stimulate the memory. The oil worn will act as an aphrodisiac.
Will add to this as soon as I possibly can!
